After his first game as an eighth grader, no one could have predicted the player Josh Lamison would become.

Winners abound Friday night at Pierson High School where the Sag Harbor Booster Foundation’s annual Spirit Night brought a large crowd and festive atmosphere to the gym for a doubleheader of varsity basketball.

Three regular-season games remain for the Pierson-Bridgehampton girls basketball team, which, with the League VIII title out of reach, is looking for one more victory before preparations can begin for the Class C postseason.

A league championship and perfect regular season will be on the line this week for the Bridgehampton boys basketball team, which crushed two recent opponents to further establish itself as the top ranked Class D team in New York State.

The East Hampton girls winter track team, which features several standout athletes from Pierson, will not compete in their League V Championship this year because the event has been cancelled due to the blizzard. Instead, the team will race in the Small School Championship meet this Saturday at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood at 2:30 p.m.

Ben Kushner and Sean Sloane scored 16 points apiece to lead the Pierson boys basketball team to a 65-53 victory over Smithtown Christian on Friday, January 23. The win was the fifth straight for the Whalers, who improved to 6-4 in League VIII.

Seniors Robbie Evjen and Ben Kushner set the pace in the team’s latest win last Thursday, an impressive 67-46 victory over Shelter Island, which followed wins over Southold on January 13 and the Ross School on January 9.

Across eight state championship seasons, there has never been an undefeated boys basketball team at Bridgehampton. The current crop of Killer Bees kept that hope alive with an 86-72 victory over Southold on Thursday, January 15, that improved the team’s overall record to a perfect 11-0 for the season.

Nia Dawson scored 11 points and Erica Selyukova had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Pierson-Bridgehampton girls basketball team picked up a 39-36 road win over McGann-Mercy on Saturday.
