This spring, not one, but two Sag Harbor condominium projects will be completed and ready to welcome their first tenants. Together, Watchcase, the luxury condominium complex in the former Bulova Watchcase Factory on Division Street, and Harbor’s Edge, a condo development on West Water Street on the site of a former restaurant and night club, will add 78 apartments to the village’s residential stock. While its not a huge number of units in the scheme of things, the development of these two complexes, which will be purchased primarily as summer or weekend homes, says a great deal, not only about the financial security of those who will soon take up residence in Sag Harbor for at least part of the year, but also changing demographics on a national level.

First known for whale oil, then watches, Sag Harbor is again being recognized, this time for its schools. The East End real estate market has seen an influx of buyers and renters with one primary request: living in the Sag Harbor School District.

Even a blind man can see that the Sag Harbor Village Historic District is undergoing major changes.

Kiley DeMarco and Anastasia Gavalas came from totally different perspectives when they met a couple summers back at an event at Wolffer Estate in Sagaponack. Ms. DeMarco was behind the web site onehealthyhamptons.com, where she writes about wellness on the East End. Ms. Gavalas was an author and busy mother of five.
“We just hit it off,” said Ms. DeMarco, “and started brainstorming ideas of working together.”
Ms. Gavalas’s book, “Wing It”, is about staying sane in the madness of parenthood. She also started the Wing It foundation, which helps fund global and local education initiatives. The women were supportive of one another’s work, and wanted to figure out a way that they could bring the backgrounds of wellness and family together to create a healthier community.
“We like different things,” said Ms. Gavalas. “How we relax, fitness, eating. We have different lifestyles but we both want balance.”
They were both tired of spending lots of money trying to find a wellness regime that worked, often without success. They thought about how in the winter, there are so many wellness businesses struggling to stay on people’s radar.
“We wanted to find a way,” said Ms. DeMarco, “to allow locals to try fitness classes for free or for less to empower themselves to be healthier.”
That’s how Hamptons Wellness Week was born.

Unseasonably warm weather may have distracted from the fact that Thanksgiving is little more than two weeks away, meaning those hosting family for a holiday feast would do well to begin planning for the impending festivities.

Kelly M. Canavan, who is heading up a new law office in Bridgehampton, is deeply connected to the community on the East End. A Sag Harbor resident, she has roots that go back to her great-great-great grandfather, who was a whaling captain and had a house on Madison Street. Perhaps that’s part of the reason she wanted to be in charge of a new satellite branch of Campolo, Middleton, and McCormick, a much larger law firm that serves clients across the country from its headquarters in Ronkonkoma.
