“That’s my favorite house,” said a woman to North Haven Mayor Jeff Sander after she pulled over to watch as workers with Dawn House Movers slowly rolled the Point House, an 1804 colonial landmark, off its foundation overlooking Sag Harbor and across the lawn and closer to Ferry Road on Monday morning.

Forty years ago, Sag Harbor Village was overrun with strays, cat colonies had overtaken the East Hampton Town dump and feral dogs roamed the Northwest Woods in wild packs.

In a unanimous vote on April 23, the Bridgehampton School Board of Education voted to pierce the New York State tax levy cap for its 2014-15 budget. The district will now depend on voters support the decision by approving the budget by more than a 60-percent majority at the May 20 budget vote and board election.

Sag Harbor Village’s $8.5 million spending plan for 2014-15 will become official on Thursday, May 1 but unlike previous budgets, this one will be adopted without a formal resolution doing so.
