Montauk Rugby Sets Sight on Rematch

Following a perfect 6-0 fall campaign and a win over Brooklyn earlier this month, the Sharks resumed their spring playoff run with a disappointing 35-10 loss to the New York Rugby Club at Herrick Park in East Hampton on Saturday. The match was not an elimination game for either team, but was used to determine seeding going forward.

Katy’s Courage will host its fifth annual 5K in Sag Harbor on Saturday, April 18, with registration open at katyscourage.itsyourrace.com. Runners can also register on the day of the race between 7 and 8:15 a.m., though the registration fee will be $30 compared to $25 in advance.

Rebuilt Whalers Baseball Team Starts Strong

The Pierson baseball team has big shoes to fill this season, having lost a stable of talented players from the last two regional championship teams, many of whom are now playing at the collegiate level.

This year’s team, led by a small group of seniors and some talented underclassmen, got off to a good start by taking two-out-of-three games from Smithtown Christian to start the League IX season before crushing visiting Stony Brook 13-2 at home on Tuesday.

Strong Start for Lady Whalers Softball

There was no doubt coming into the season that Sam Duchemin would lead the Pierson-Bridgehampton softball team, and in the season opener last week she made her presence felt immediately.

The Lady Whalers’ senior ace and top power hitter had 10 strikeouts and three RBIs, including a first-inning triple to score sophomore Isabel Peters, during a 5-1 win at Southold on March 25. Peters, who is playing second base and is the team’s leadoff hitter, also knocked in a run for Pierson, as did centerfielder Lottie Evans.

Collegiate Whalers To Feature Local Talent

With the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League set to begin its eighth season in June, attention has turned to the players who will flock to the East End this summer to join the league’s seven local teams.

In a rarity, the Sag Harbor Whalers will feature three former Pierson High School stars in Aaron Schiavoni, Colman Vila and Nick Kruel, high school standouts who are now at varying levels of their college careers.
