FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long has Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center (TIMC) been in business?
A: Tenpenny IMC (formerly OsteoMed II) was opened for business by Dr Sherri Tenpenny on February 28, 1996. Our first office was located in Strongsville. We moved to Middleburg Heights in January 2004. We chose this location because it is centrally located to all parts of Greater Metropolitan Cleveland. Our location is close to the airport, has easy access to all major highways, has ample parking, is next door to major hotels and is close to many restaurants.

Q: How many years have you been using SRT (allergy elimination)?
A: We began using SRT in 1997. It is a blend of several energy treatments we have developed over time. We feel our approach is the best, most effective and most long lasting of all allergy elimination techniques. We have treated more than 8,000 patients with SRT with long lasting success.

In 2004, a survey of our patients revealed that, among those who completed the full course of 12-15 treatments, 83% reported their symptoms were either  “completely gone” or “greatly improved.” Only 4% reported “no change.” This is why SRT is our cornerstone treatment and why patients have come from 38 states and 9 countries to get well. We know of patients that have remained symptom-free for at least 10 years since they completed their course of allergy elimination treatments.

Q: What treatments do you offer for chronic pain?
A: TIMC has many modalities for pain including Osteopathic manipulation, chiropractic manipulation (Dr Grant), cranial osteopathy, craniosacral therapy (CRT), acupuncture, B.E.S.T. balancing, homeopathy and several injection techniques.

Q: Is there an age limitation for Osteopathic manipulation or SRT treatment?
A: We have treated children as young as 4 months with SRT. Osteopathic cranial manipulation has been used to treat babies within the first 2-3 days of life.

Q: Are there any contraindications to your treatments?
A: Patients who are pregnant or have a pacemaker cannot undergo acupuncture. SRT treatments are only recommended for pregnant women in the third trimester only. Homeopathy can be safely used at all ages. Those on oral steroids, such as Medrol or Prednisone are asked to stop or lower their dose (if possible) before going through the SRT program.

Q: I don’t live near you. Where can I find another practitioner that offers treatments like Tenpenny IMC?
A. Integrative medicine practitioners are scattered across the country. You can find doctors in your are through the websites of following professional organizations:

  • American Academy of Osteopathy  (AAO)
  • The Cranial Academy
  • American Academy of Environmental Medicine  (AAEM)
  • American Academy for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM)
  • International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM)
  • Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM)
  • American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA)

Q: Do you participate with Medicare or Medicaid?
A: We do not participate with Medicare or Medicaid coverage, and you cannot submit receipts to these government-sponsored health care programs for reimbursement. We do private contract with Medicare patients.

Q: Why doesn’t TIMC participate with insurance companies?
A: We feel strongly that we want to deliver the types of care we provide without the encumbrances of insurance companies telling us how to practice medicine. The patient is the customer of insurance companies, not the doctor. That is why we give our patients receipts (called a HCFA form) to submit to their respective insurance carriers. In addition, we believe that paying for services rendered contributes to the success of our therapies. Patients who pay for care are more likely to follow through with suggested programs because they participate in their care and take ownership of outcomes.

Q: Are any of your services covered by insurance?
A: The good news is that many insurance companies reimburse our patients for a portion of their medical treatments obtained at Tenpenny IMC. While we cannot guarantee how much they will reimburse you, our patients report getting 30-80% of their fees reimbursed. NOTE: This is after your deductible is met, and is based on what the insurance company considers to be “usual and customary” payment, and on what your insurance company pays for out-of-network care.

Services generally not covered by insurance include:

  • Breast Thermography (the scan itself; the office visit and breast exam may be covered)
  • Thyroflex testing  (spotty coverage)

We offer payment options to many patients and medical coverage can be available through CareCredit, Liberty Healthshare and we accept transactions through your HSA plan.  We accept most major credit cards.
