How Will the Coronavirus Outbreak Change the Way we Travel?

travelling after coronavirus

Few industries have been hit as hard as the travel industry throughout the coronavirus pandemic with a predicted cut of 50 million jobs worldwide. Covid-19 will have a long-term impact on the way we travel. Bookings have decreased drastically as people all over the world are told to stay home. Airlines are becoming bankrupt, travel companies are making many workers redundant, and hospitals now take the form of hotels. How will travel look in the months to come and what changes will be made?

Traveling Will Get Expensive

Governments may need to turn border closure measures on and off to keep the demands upon their health systems at a manageable level. Opportunities to travel may last only short periods of time, so with demand, the prices will rocket during these limited periods of travel.

Recovery Will Be a Rocky Road

Many elements influence this pandemic such as the impact of blocking measures, when they occur, the effectiveness of health services, money available, the time of year and more. Recovery of countries and regions will be unequal and unsteady.

You Will Need More Evidence Than Just a Passport

Entry may be denied unless you provide evidence of immunity or that you have been vaccinated. Our Travel vaccine clinics will be more than busy giving advice on all worldwide diseases and administering necessary vaccination, including vaccinations against Coronavirus.

You will need a good reason for travelling in the short term. You may need temporary visas and other important documentation when you travel.

Longer Queues at Immigration

When countries feel that they are on top of their outbreak any new infections could still come from abroad. Even when the blockades are over and we start traveling again, countries will want to closely monitor those entering. Consider what it will be like if you line up, do a swab test, have your temperature taken and must wait for the results.

Travelling With Even a Cold Will Be Difficult

If it’s seen as socially unacceptable to travel with even a cold or any symptom due to social distancing, the stigma may mean that people don’t show up on their travel days if they are not fit and well.

You Will Travel With Different Items

A mask will be an essential item. As hand sanitiser is the only effective way to wash your hands when you are travelling, and travellers may want to drink more than 100 millilitres on long-distance flights – liquid transport restrictions may have to change.

Preferred Ways of Travelling May Change

Internal travel will be able to get back on track faster than external travel as there are no borders to control. Trains that are less crowded, have windows that open, and more environmentally friendly will be more attractive to travellers initially.

Clean Air Will Be an Important Feature

Because of the large numbers of people on a plane, air safety will be an important measure for a flight. Air filtering systems will see huge improvements. People will be asking “how safe is the air on board?”.

Insurance Policies Will Be Revised

Airline providers and those in the insurance industry will have to alter to adapt to our new situation and include an outbreak of a pandemic in their cover and perhaps allow for greater flexibility to cancel any time before your flight.
