Like most of us, Bob the red bird has discovered that every now and then he enjoys departing from his flock and taking a flight path all his own. He tries to be brave and try new things when he meets up with new friends, but is having a hard time with that until he meets his new friend, Eagle. Eagle tells him that he too used to be afraid until he learned that wings don’t get you anywhere unless you spread them. This is a delightful and joyous story for all ages and would be a great graduation gift.

Their friendship spanned an era of many momentous political and national events. The perspective and wisdom of these two legendary women and the warm friendship they shared is delightful and illuminating.

I fell in love with Bucky Yee, the titular “All American” of Joe Milan’s exciting coming-of-age debut. From his small-town high school Bucky dreams of making it big as a heavily recruited college football player. But Korean-born Bucky soon runs afoul of the US immigration system, and Milan depicts how this people-processing machine abuses the most vulnerable. Moreover, the bureaucracy that Bucky faces in Korea after he is deported is no better--reminiscent of Kafka’s The Castle. Bucky's a great character, authentic and well-felt. However, what impressed me most is Milan’s exploration of the many varieties and meaning of family and what a terrible job our society does of recognizing and responding to its very many untraditional households.
