Florida girl, 6, escapes alleged abductor by biting his arm

A 6-year-old girl escaped her would-be kidnapper Thursday by biting his arm and running away, authorities said.

The incident occurred while the young girl was in the courtyard of a Miami apartment complex with her siblings, according to a report citing an arrest affidavit.

She stayed outside after her siblings went back inside, and that is when she was snatched.

"She stated that she was suddenly grabbed by the arm ... and pulled toward the rear of the stairs," the affidavit read. "The victim began to fight back and pulled away from the defendant. The defendant then picked up the victim and began to carry her away."

"The victim bit the defendant on the arm causing him to drop her. The defendant slapped the victim and ran away towards the front of the apartment complex," the account added. "The victim ran around the building towards the front to tell her aunt what had just occurred.”

Authorities later identified 32-year-old Miami native Leonardo Venegas as the suspect, and he was arrested Saturday on charges of kidnapping and child abuse causing no great bodily harm.
