Boebert seeks to eliminate salaries of some presidential appointees

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said she plans to use the Holman rule to file amendments on appropriations bills targeting the salaries of several presidential appointees and other agency officials.

Specifically, Boebert said she would introduce the Holman Rule amendments to the proper appropriations bills targeting Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. But she doesn’t think it should stop with just the higher-ups.

“There's bureaucrats that will be targeted with the Holman rule, and we need to make sure that we're making significant cuts,” Boebert said.

She told the Washington Examiner she plans on filing these amendments as soon as the appropriations bills are released.

The Holman rule allows House members to file amendments to appropriations bills to reduce the salary of or fire specific federal employees or cut certain federal programs.

This tactic has been floated by members of the House Freedom Caucus as a way to cut the salary of certain officials or cut programs within the Justice Department without having to go through the process of impeachment.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) told the Washington Examiner that he supports using the Holman rule to target Mayorkas.

“I think that anyone who is failing in their duties — clearly failing in their duties — and doesn't have a plan to change the outcomes is a target for the Holman rule, and the only person I have in mind at this point is Secretary Mayorkas," Buck said.
