Elon Musk biographer says 'cage fight' is metaphor for Twitter battle with Meta

Elon Musk biographer Walter Isaacson said Monday that the supposed cage fight between Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is really just a metaphor for the pair's online battle between Twitter and Threads.

The Big Tech billionaires first suggested the cage match last month after Musk tweeted in response to the then-rumored development of Threads.

Since the idea that two of the world's richest men would brawl came about, social media has gone crazy with theories about who would win and how, and both men have even been seen training with UFC champions.

However, Isaacson declared that an actual fight between the two men is unlikely and that Musk's attitude toward Zuckerberg is due to the South African's impulsive nature and "demon mode."

"He really loves it, and he loves putting out impulsive tweets," Isaacson said. "He loves the contentiousness of it. You know his favorite line in a movie is, 'Are you not entertained?' That final line of the Gladiator, and that's what [is] distinguishing Twitter for better and for worse against things like Threads."

Musk, himself, finds Threads "boring," but he loves competition, according to Isaacson.

Still, the idea of a Musk versus Zuckerberg fight in the Colosseum is not likely, he said.

"I think we're watching the cage fight," Isaacson said. "I think it's a metaphor, no pun intended, for the Meta fight with Twitter, but we're not really gonna go to the Colosseum in Rome."

The book on Musk is scheduled to be released in September.
