House Democrats slammed for 'cherry-picked' border report ahead of Mayorkas hearing

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green (R-TN) bashed House Democrats for a "cherry-picked" border report published ahead of a hearing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In a joint statement, the two accused Democrats of selectively picking pieces out of transcribed interviews with Border Patrol agents.

SOME HOUSE GOP LAWMAKERS PUSH BIDEN IMPEACHMENT, BUT LEADERSHIP IS CAUTIOUS

“The facts make it clear that President Biden created the worst border crisis in American history, but Democrats and the White House are trying to make it seem the border is as secure as Fort Knox," the statement read. "Today’s Democrat memorandum manipulates the facts contained in over 850 pages of testimony from Chief Patrol Agents stationed along the border to cover up the Biden border crisis."

"In reality, Chief Patrol Agents have detailed to our committees the historically high levels of illegal border crossings, migrant deaths, rescues of migrants put in peril by cartel smuggling organizations, gotaways, and assaults against our heroic Border Patrol agents," it added.

In response, the two released excerpts from several agents' testimony, which gave a more dire depiction of the situation at the border.

“No amount of Democrat spin can change the fact that President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas’ open border policies have ignited a national security and humanitarian catastrophe at the border,” Green and Comer said.

Several of the interviews quoted by the two included officers saying that they had never seen the situation at the border so dire and warning that current policies increased the likelihood of illegal immigration.
