Gas prices today: Where to find the cheapest fuel across the country


For most people, it is a constant necessity of life to manage gas prices.

As the 2024 presidential election slowly comes clearer into view, the economy will be on the minds of most, if not all, voters. The price at the pumps is one of the most direct and day-to-day pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Thursday is $3.580, up from $3.569 on Wednesday and from $3.555 a week ago, according to AAA.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.573, up from $3.562 on Wednesday. One week ago, it was $3.561.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia is $3.417, below the national average. On Wednesday, the price was $3.416, and this time last week, it was $3.351.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is $3.713, above the national average and up from $3.692 on Wednesday. Last week, it was $3.695.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California is significantly above the national average at $4.894. On Wednesday, the price was $4.898, and one week ago, it was $4.902.

New York

In New York, the average price is $3.679, up from $3.675 on Wednesday. Last week, it was $3.676.

The average price in Texas sits well below the national average at $3.211. On Wednesday, the price was $3.175, and last week, it was $3.190.
