Trump gloats after winning Turning Point Action straw poll

Former President Donald Trump didn't wait long to brag over winning the Turning Point Action Conference's 2024 primary straw poll over the weekend.

"Just heard that I (WE!) won the big Turning Point Straw Poll in a BLOWOUT, getting 85.7% of the Vote," Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.

An overwhelming majority of attendees, 85.7%, chose Trump to be the GOP's next standard-bearer during the conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Washington Examiner first reported. Trump was followed by businessman Perry Johnson, who received 7.8% of support, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who garnered 4.3% of support.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was the top contender for the attendees' second preference, receiving 51.2% of support, while 21.4% chose Trump and 13.5% supported DeSantis.

Trump, the GOP's 2024 front-runner, also took to his platform to slam DeSantis, his top competitor in the race, and other rivals. "Ron DeSanctimonious came in a solid 3rd with 4.3%, Vivek got 2%, and Sloppy Chris Christie, as usual, got a big, fat, ZERO! Turning Point put on a GREAT event in West Palm Beach, setting all kinds of records, including in attendance!" the former president said.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie received hardly any support in both the first and second presidential preference categories during the straw poll.

Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake led the possible vice presidential field during the straw poll, garnering 30.8% of support. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) came in second at 24%, followed by Ramaswamy at 22.7% and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) at 6.9%.
