Community
& Family

There is an active effort to dismantle the traditional family. Black Lives Matter, a Marxist organization embraced by gentry liberals, says the traditional family is a racist institution. In truth it is the most effective social, cultural, educational, and healthcare institution of all. The Washington Examiner will support policies that foster family formation and parental authority, which promote freedom and resist central control. Decisions should be left whenever possible to authorities closest to the people governed by them. Charities, community groups, churches, towns, counties, and states should shoulder most responsibilities, as the Constitution either prescribes or implies. Efforts by the federal government to arrogate states’ rights should be fought back.
For countless generations, entry into adulthood was typically and quickly followed by marriage and parenthood. Over the last few decades, however, we have seen a precipitous decline in both marriage and fertility rates. The question is, why? And what can be done about it?
In the first days of the school year, teachers in many of Fairfax County’s classrooms distributed surveys to students that included questions regarding gender identity and preferred pronouns. The district’s superintendent, Michelle Reid, has stated that she is defying Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R-VA) model policies for public education, which require that schools notify parents of such discussions. Fairfax County’s unwillingness to follow state law means that parents will not have a right to know about these survey answers or their children’s social gender transitions at school.
In the name of "equal rights," the word "woman" itself is being scrubbed and plastered over with dehumanizing language such as "menstruators," "egg-producers," and "pregnant people" — a term that has newfound relevance in light of recent scientific news.
Even in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, no one seems to agree about abortion.
Parents of kindergarten children have increasingly sought vaccination exemptions nationally since 2012.
A new “Report on the Condition of Education” from the National Center on Education Statistics shows a significant increase in the percentage of school teachers with advanced degrees, which in many districts will earn them extra pay.
The use of abortion-inducing drugs has been a source of controversy, especially following the Supreme Court’s ruling returning abortion decisions to the states last year. On Wednesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Food and Drug Administration must restore the safeguards it had taken away to make the abortion drug mifepristone more accessible.
The Democratic Party claims to champion diversity and equity, especially for disadvantaged populations, but too often, its policies prove otherwise. Democrats’ opposition to school choice, for example, undermines opportunities for low-income, underserved children to achieve the same academic excellence as higher-income students. But despite widespread support for education freedom policies among Democratic voters and calls from within the party itself to change its stance, the Democratic Party remains belligerent to the needs of families.
A barrage of recent articles claim the Republican Party is waging a war on women. The evidence? Alleged proposals to eliminate no-fault divorce in Texas, Louisiana, and Nebraska and comments by conservative pundits in support of such measures.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Katja Bullock, a friend and former colleague of mine and a legend in Republican politics. I got to know Katja well during my time as secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Donald Trump. Katja initially ran the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, which coordinated all the hiring and staffing decisions for the agency. We interacted often, and she always struck me as an individual with grace, wisdom, and an enduring dedication to the values that make America great.

Bank of America is at the center of an ongoing January 6 investigation. Yet not because it (or its leadership) was directly involved in the riot. Rather, there has been an ongoing investigation into whether Bank of America supplied the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with financial records of people in the DC area for January 5–7, 2021.
Rather than expanding the federal government to solve problems, locally driven solutions, ones that put people families, and our communities at the forefront of decision-making, are the key to restoring America.
