Joe Biden

Biden's 'focus' is on families, not GOP impeachment threats, White House says

The White House shook off Republican threats to impeach Joe Biden on Tuesday, insisting the president's "focus" is on improving the economy.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) spent the past two days flirting with the idea of launching an impeachment inquiry against Biden in response to claims made by Republicans on the House Oversight Committee regarding the Biden family's business dealings.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced questions on the topic during Tuesday's press briefing but declined to engage in "hypotheticals."

"That's for Republicans to decide. I'm not going to weigh in on what they may or may not do, or how House Republicans want to move forward," she responded. "The president is going to continue to move forward for the American people, for American families. That's his focus."

"We've seen that the last two years, more than two years, of how the president wants to make sure that we have an economy that works for the American family and that we're putting forth policies that really, truly change lives," she continued. "You think about the mental health rule that we're putting forward. You think about how he wants to make sure that we're continuing to tell the story of our nation and not shy away from the history. That is incredibly important, when we think about Emmett Till, so that's what the president's going to focus on. I'm just not going to get into hypotheticals."
