Irish singer Sinead O'Connor has reportedly died at 56.
O'Connor was famous for her top music hit "Nothing Compares 2 U," written by Prince. The song was No. 1 worldwide in 1990. She released 10 studio albums and debuted her first album in 1987. Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, received the most musical success, selling over 7 million copies.

Earlier this year, she received an award from RTE Choice Music Awards.
She was known for making controversial political statements about the IRA and sparked outrage in 1992 when she tore up a picture of the pope during her musical performance on Saturday Night Live.
Last year, O'Connor canceled her live shows five months after losing her 17-year-old son Shane O'Connor who had died by suicide in January.
A spokesperson for the singer said that due to her "continuing grief over the tragic loss of her beloved son," she needed to cancel her concert tour to help "her own health and well-being.”
A month after her son's passing, O'Connor had signaled that she wanted never to perform again because there wasn't "anything to sing about."
The singer had a history of struggling with suicidal thoughts. She shared in a series of Twitter posts that she planned to kill herself one week following her son's death last year.
“I’ve decided to follow my son. There is no point living without him. Everything I touch, I ruin. I only stayed for him. And now he’s gone,” she tweeted.
O'Connor was then admitted to a hospital for treatment after her posts.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I am with cops now on way to hospital. I’m sorry I upset everyone,” she later said, adding, “I am lost without my kid and I hate myself. Hospital will help a while. But I’m going to find Shane. This is just a delay.”
In August 2017, O'Connor publicly expressed problems with depression over losing custody of her then-13-year-old son. She shared in a social media post that she felt alone and had contemplated killing herself.
She had admitted that she had been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder.
