Most don’t think charges will stop Trump’s ‘reelection’ bid

People are divided over the growing charges former President Donald Trump faces, but a majority believe it won’t make a difference or could even help his reelection.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets, when asked if the prosecutions Trump is facing “will help or hurt” his chances in next year’s elections, 55% said it will either help or won’t make a difference.

Just 35% said it will hurt Trump, who is facing three major cases that could grow to five, including an expected indictment on 2020 election meddling charges that could come today or tomorrow.

The survey was an interesting collection of three key questions. It started by asking who those surveyed voted for in 2020. Some 47% said Biden and 43% said Trump. Then it asked about the 2024 vote and the numbers flipped a bit, with 49% picking Trump and 47% Biden.

Poll after poll has shown over the last few months that a Biden-Trump race is expected by voters and that it will be very close. Some predicted Biden the winner, others Trump.

Notably for the GOP primaries, Rasmussen’s analysis said, “Most who voted for Trump in 2020 — 43% of those surveyed — don’t believe that the criminal charges against the former president will have a negative impact on his chances in 2024. Only 18% of Trump voters think the prosecution of Trump will hurt his chances of winning next year's presidential election, while 39% say the prosecution will help his chances and 35% believe it will not make much difference.”
