DeSantis to headline 'Faith & Freedom BBQ' days after first RNC debate


Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will headline the annual South Carolina barbecue hosted by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) next month, days after the Republican National Committee's first primary debate.

The annual "Faith & Freedom BBQ" will take place on Aug. 28 in Anderson, South Carolina.

Duncan announced the news on Thursday, saying, “I served with Gov. Ron DeSantis in Congress and know how committed he is to restoring the values that made America the envy of the world.”

“South Carolina is known as the proving ground for GOP presidential candidates, and I’m humbled that Faith & Freedom BBQ has become the No. 1 stop as candidates contend for the vote of South Carolinians,” he added.

The Florida governor's keynote speech at the event will take place just a few days after he faces off against other Republican primary candidates in the RNC primary debate on Aug. 23.

The event is known for bringing together some of the top leaders in the Republican Party, including past attendees former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), former South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, Gov. Henry McMaster (R-SC), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), and former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, among others.

A spokesperson for Duncan said no other presidential candidates are invited to speak at the event but did not confirm whether they were invited as attendees.

Duncan has not made an endorsement in the primary.
