Lia Thomas teammate and Chloe Cole to testify to Congress on 'dangers' of gender transitions

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced Monday a hearing to review the "dangers and due process violations" of child gender transitions.

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, of which Johnson is chairman, "will examine and expose how children are being coerced by adults in positions of authority into life-altering and medically questionable gender transition procedures without full understanding of the meaning or impact."

Johnson told the Washington Examiner that he supports federal law to "shield families" from the coercion.

The hearing will feature as a witness Chloe Cole, an 18-year-old detransitioner and advocate against child transitions, who was put on puberty blockers at the age of 13 and a testosterone regimen within a month.

"At 15, the summer just after my sophomore year of high school ended, was when I underwent a double mastectomy, my breasts were permanently surgically removed," Cole recently told Fox News's Jesse Watters. "Before I transitioned, I was a perfectly happy kid. I mean, I was socially awkward, I was a bit of a tomboy and I kind of struggled to fit in with other girls my age, but I was starting to be able to make friends of my own."

Cole also refutes the commonly cited idea from doctors and advocates of child transitions that not pursuing medical interventions comes with an increased risk of suicide. "I only started being suicidal once I was actually on these treatments," she said.

Paula Scanlan, a former University of Pennsylvania athlete who was on the team with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, will also testify. Scanlan initially spoke about her experience with Thomas on the team anonymously, but recently came out publicly to raise concerns about Penn's policy to "silence" female teammates who were uncomfortable sharing a locker room with Thomas.

Johnson's home state of Louisiana recently enacted a ban on gender transition procedures for children, with the state legislature overriding the veto from Gov. John Bel Edwards (D-LA).

In addition, a Washington Examiner investigation revealed how doctors at Children's Hospital New Orleans were able to use the Pelican State's permissive minor consent laws and Epic Systems electronic medical records software to allow young children to pursue transition interventions without the knowledge or consent of parents.

The House hearing is set to take place July 27 at 10 a.m. EDT.
