Even hip-hop artist 50 Cent realizes the Left's criminal justice policies endanger people’s safety

A judge ruled in May that criminals arrested for low-level offenses in Los Angeles County would no longer be required to post cash bail. The ruling comes as the country’s largest county has a crime rate above the national average, including increased murders and other crimes in recent years. It was a ruling that was mocked and strongly rebuked by famous hip-hop artist 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III.

“LA is finished. Watch how bad it gets out there. SMH,” Jackson said in a video he posted on Instagram.

WHY ZELENSKY'S NATO MEMBERSHIP COMPLAINT IS UNREASONABLE

Even Jackson, who has his own criminal history, knows that left-wing criminal justice policies, which keep criminals out of jail, are disastrous and endanger innocent people. It makes one wonder why politicians and judges can’t grasp this.

The ruling came after six people brought a lawsuit against Los Angeles County and claimed that the cash bail system was unfair and favored wealthy people. The plaintiffs testified that because they couldn’t afford bail, they were stuck in jail and had to miss work. This caused a loss of income, and their families suffered.

“Many people who cannot pay money bail remain in jail. On any given night, people languish in jail cells throughout Los Angeles County because they lack the cash required to purchase their release. These individuals are not detained on the basis that they are too dangerous to release: the government would release them right away if they could pay. Rather, they are too poor. This is the class of people the Individual Plaintiffs seek to represent in this action,” the plaintiffs claimed in the lawsuit.

Lawrence Riff, the judge presiding over the case, ruled in the plaintiffs’ favor and said that requiring cash bail for low-income defendants was a “clear, pervasive, and serious constitutional violation.”

Salil Dudani, an attorney working on the lawsuit, claimed that cash bail didn’t make people safer but rather had the opposite effect.

“The ruling points out that there’s overwhelming indisputable evidence that secured money bail actually does nothing to protect the public, does nothing to ensure people appear in court, and perversely, it has the opposite outcomes,” Dudani said.

However, a recent study suggests Dudani is wrong. Analysis from the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office revealed that people released on zero bail were rearrested significantly more than those released on bail. Moreover, people released on zero bail “reoffended at an average that was 70% higher than arrestees who posted bail.”

None of this information should be surprising. Nonviolent, low-level crimes are still crimes. If you want to stay out of jail, don’t commit crimes. It’s a simple rule that humans have followed for thousands of years — including up to 2020, before the COVID pandemic.

Yet, in the 21st century in this country, left-wing politicians and activists think it is too much. For some reason, the Left advocates criminal justice "reform" policies that are more concerned with protecting criminals than law-abiding people. Perhaps 50 Cent can rap about it in his next song.
