Newsom's fierce backing of Biden and Harris in DeSantis debate fails to quash 2024 rumors
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) vociferously defended President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris's record in a one-on-one debate against Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who repeatedly attacked the Biden administration's failures. Yet Newsom's fierce defenses failed to stop questions about a future presidential run.
From his opening remarks through the end of the debate hosted by Fox News and moderated by anchor Sean Hannity, Newsom sought to convince voters that the Biden administration has been a positive force for the public and focus less on his own future beyond the governor's mansion.

George Santos expelled from House of Representatives
In a historic vote, the House of Representatives voted to expel Rep. George Santos (R-NY) from Congress, making him just the sixth member of the House to face that punishment.
In order to expel Santos, the House required a two-thirds majority, and the effort succeeded despite House GOP leadership voting against the resolution, citing concerns about future precedent. The expulsion passed with 311 voting for it, including 105 Republicans, 114 voting against it, and two voting present.

Pioneering Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, a swing vote for decades on the nation's highest court, died at age 93.
O'Connor, who graduated from law school in just two years at a time when few women even attended, was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan in 1981 and was unanimously approved by the Senate, becoming the first woman to serve on the high court. The Supreme Court announced her death in a statement, noting she died from "complications related to advanced dementia, probably Alzheimer’s, and a respiratory illness.”

Ron DeSantis, Gavin Newsom face off; Biden's light National Christmas Tree
With the House expected to vote on the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (R-NY) this week, his likely ouster could open the door for more efforts by lawmakers to use the historically rare procedure to punish their colleagues. In what is likely to be his final press conference as a member of Congress on Thursday, Santos denounced the efforts to remove him from office as setting a dangerous precedent to oust a sitting lawmaker who has not been convicted.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) brought props to his highly anticipated debate against Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA). DeSantis displayed a copy of Gender Queer: A Memoir, a graphic book written and illustrated by Maia Kobabe, during the pair's discussion about education and parental rights. The governor contended it was an instance of a book taught in California's public schools but banned from Florida's curricula.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden lit the National Christmas Tree at the White House ellipse Thursday night. This year’s tree is a 40-foot Norway spruce from West Virginia, which toppled over ahead of the lighting ceremony on Tuesday. A crane lifted the tree back up and the century-old tradition continued. Earlier this week, the first lady also shared the new Christmas decorations at the White House, which also included an ice skating rink on the south lawn that will be open throughout December.

Democrats losing Biden backup plan as primary deadlines pass
Democrats are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to President Joe Biden as growing concerns over his age and polling numbers are still regarded as insufficient to warrant a "plan B" for the 2024 election.
At age 81, Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history. Despite physicians attesting to his well-being, a string of incidents, including trips and falls, malapropisms, and losing his train of thought, have caused two-thirds of his own party to believe that he is too old to remain in the White House. Polling numbers in key battleground states have found former President Donald Trump leading Biden in most of them, causing a divide among Democrats between those who have no concerns about their chances to defeat Trump and those who say there is no other option than Biden.

WEX Wakeup: Henry Kissinger dead at 100; DeSantis and Newsom to debate Thursday
Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, one of the most influential statesmen of the 20th century, has died at age 100. Kissinger served as secretary of state under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford from 1969 to 1977. While in the position, he played a central role in opening up relations with China, beginning detente with the Soviet Union, ending the war in Vietnam, assisting Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, navigating through the OPEC oil embargo, and assisting authoritarian regimes in crushing communist movements worldwide.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) will face off on Thursday in what will be a headline-grabbing debate, putting their respective states’ policy differences and leadership styles in the spotlight. The two will partake in a first-of-its-kind debate, airing live on Fox News from Alpharetta, Georgia.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called upon Gov. Greg Abbott to send ‘thousands of illegal immigrants’ to the states of 10 Democratic senators who recently circulated a letter opposing border security negotiations. “Governor Abbott, if you’re watching Sean Hannity tonight, do me a favor,” Graham said during an appearance on Hannity Wednesday. “Make it real to those 10 senators and their states what you’ve been dealing with in Texas. Instead of sending them all to New York, why don’t you look at the states in question.”

“Many of the people who express these sentiments in America aren't Neo-Nazis or card-carrying Klan members or Islamic extremists,” Schumer said during a nearly 40-minute speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday. “They’re in most cases people that most liberal Jewish Americans felt previously were their ideological fellow travelers.”

"We're seeing what can happen when you have a president, a person named Joe Biden who came in and actually peeled back an effective border policy that was working," Lake said in an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner this week. "He did that on day one. And I think he did it intentionally to destabilize our country."

Rosalynn Carter laid to rest ; National Christmas Tree knocked over by strong winds
A New York Republican jump-started the process to expel his embattled colleague, Rep. George Santos (R-NY), from the House, teeing up a likely vote on Thursday. Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY) noticed a motion to expel Santos as privileged on Tuesday night, which means the House will now have two legislative days to take a vote. The resolution was originally filed by House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) nearly two weeks ago, but D'Esposito's move to expedite the process comes hours after two House Democrats filed their own privileged resolution to oust Santos.

Two Jewish House Democrats are leading the reproach of Republican calls to expel Palestinians from the United States, with the pair calling the effort "un-American."
Reps. Dan Goldman (D-NY) and Greg Landsman (D-OH) introduced a resolution on Tuesday condemning Republican efforts to remove Palestinians from U.S. soil, particularly the bill led by Rep. California Democrats say Kamala Harris could have upper hand over Gavin Newsom if they run
Regardless of who contests next year's general election, the political chattering class is talking about the prospects of Harris, regarded by some as President Joe Biden's heir apparent, and Newsom, who has been rapidly building his national profile, including by debating 2024 Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
Some Democrats at a California state party convention in Sacramento contend Newsom will cede to Harris, based on their shared histories in San Francisco when Newsom was mayor and Harris was district attorney and, then in California's capital, when Newsom was lieutenant governor and Harris was attorney general. But other party members are of the opinion that the next primary should be an open, competitive race.

Tuberville said Biden should have instructed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to put the military at the southern border as soon as the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks happened in Israel, citing the lack of knowledge of the backgrounds of illegal immigrants entering the United States.
