Abigail Disney pledges to withdraw all Democratic contributions until Biden is replaced

Abigail Disney, heiress of the Disney fortune, pledged to withdraw all donations to the Democratic Party until President Joe Biden is replaced as the presidential nominee.

Disney is a member of and major donor to the Democratic Party, largely through her inheritance through her father, Roy Disney, who co-founded the Walt Disney Company. Despite her long-running support for the party, Abigail Disney announced on Thursday that she would cease contributions unless Biden was replaced as the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.

“I intend to stop any contributions to the party unless and until they replace Biden at the top of the ticket. This is realism, not disrespect. Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are far too high,” she said in a statement to CNBC.

“If Biden does not step down the Democrats will lose,” Disney added. “Of that I am absolutely certain. The consequences for the loss will be genuinely dire.”

Several other major Democratic donors, including Karla Jurvetson and Moriah Fund President Gideon Stein, joined her.

A campaign official told the Washington Examiner that Disney has not donated anything to the Biden campaign during the current election cycle.

Former President Donald Trump shot ahead of Biden in post-debate polls, with RealClearPolitics giving him a 3.3% average lead in polling. The surge has caused a major alarm among party figures and donors, with many pushing for a replacement.

For Disney, Vice President Kamala Harris is the obvious choice, blaming racism and sexism for many Democrats’ unreadiness to embrace her.

“We have an excellent vice president. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she said.

Despite growing calls for him to step aside, Biden shows no signs of obliging critics.
