Taking the family to the ballpark is an American tradition and this season there are lots of ways for Washington Nationals fans to save money when going to Nationals Park.

You'll pay on average of $146 for a family of four to see a Nats game this year, according to Money Geek. That's for tickets, parking and concessions.

This year you'll find tickets as low as $5 for D.C. residents.

They are available for all home games on a first-come, first-served basis and must be purchased at the Nationals box office, with a valid D.C. ID.

"We also have a standing room ticket for any one of our 81 home games. Those tickets essentially equate to $5," Kim Bolt, Nationals Chief Marketing Officer said. "We have a new program this year called Tuesday night deals and steals, where you can get a $9 ticket to the ballpark, $10 parking, and concession deals. You can get a pretzel for $3, a hot dog for $4, and pizza or a soda for $5."

There are also free giveaways and themed weekends.

"We have an entirely new concept called Blowout Weekends, where we take our theme nights and extend that over the course of three days. We have a Star Wars weekend with Friday night fireworks . Then a Kyle Finnegan X-wing pilot bobble head give-away on Saturday. Then a reversible light side -vs- dark side beanie that we're giving away on Sunday, May 5," Bolt said.

Military, first responders, public school teachers, students, young professionals (ages 21-39) and government employees can save up to 30% off tickets and get a $5 to $15 concession credit.

There are more than 56 special ticket events, like "ladies’ night," or "college night." There are various parking garages in the area and you can reserve a spot in advance or you can save on parking by taking Metro or an Uber to Navy Yard.

You can also save on concessions by bringing your own food. For a full list of specialty food and beverage options and popular bars and restaurants, click here.

Typically weekday games cost less than weekend games -- An average ticket costs $39.
