The Environmental Health division helps protect our water, air, food and other resources from contamination through the administration and enforcement of many programs that cover private water systems, home sewage treatment systems, food safety, recreational swim and camp areas, body art, school and institution inspections, housing and animal bite/human rabies prevention.
Improving the health of Wood County
Wood County Health Department’s Health Promotion & Preparedness Division brings together several programs to protect and improve the health of the people of Wood County, including community nursing programs, infectious and chronic disease surveillance and emergency preparedness, and houses our Medical Reserve Corp volunteer program.
WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children
Wood County Health Department’s Nutrition Division oversees the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, most commonly known as WIC. WIC is a USDA-funded program that provides nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, supplemental, highly nutritious foods, referrals to prenatal and pediatric health care and other maternal and child health and human service programs. Income-eligible pregnant women, children under five years old and grandparents caring for their grandchildren under five years old can participate in WIC.
