The assault was reported to Lincoln Police on Aug. 15 by a 29-year-old woman who claimed Haskell assaulted her early that morning. She told officers that she and a friend had been drinking at a concert the night before and later went to an apartment near Ridge Park Drive and Fletcher Avenue.

Haskell, who also lived at the apartment, was someone the woman said she was uncomfortable being around due to a previous domestic assault charge against him, which was later reduced to disturbing the peace, the documents state.

The woman fell asleep around midnight while still intoxicated. A few hours later, she was awakened by a man sexually assaulting her. According to the arrest affidavit, when she realized the man was Haskell, she repeatedly told him to stop. Haskell then got dressed, said he would leave the apartment, and left. The woman managed to record a video of Haskell as he was getting dressed.

At 3:35 a.m., the woman and her friend called Haskell and convinced him to return to the apartment, where they confronted him. The woman recorded the conversation, during which Haskell apologized, admitted he had been attracted to her for some time, and said he “caved” and had no excuse, documents state.

The woman then left the apartment and returned to her own home.

Lincoln Police worked with the woman to collect the audio and video recordings she made that morning. She later obtained a Sexual Assault Nurse Examination kit from a local hospital, which was also turned over to police as evidence.

Haskell was arrested on Friday, Aug. 23. The woman was granted a sexual assault protection order against him.

Haskell’s next court hearing is set for Sept. 25. His bond is set at 10% of $750,000.
