LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The city council voted on Monday to increase the tax levy for the Lincoln Airport Authority, five to two.

The original tax levy was at 1.75 cents per $100 of valuation, and the increase would nearly double it to 2.98 cents per $100 of valuation.

The three main uses of the money are for paying down $6.7 million in bond debt from the terminal project and use $15 million for runway renovations. The rest would be deferred for other maintenance projects.

The airport board told the council that there are lots of things that have been neglected for several decades and that the money is needed to help drive business in Lincoln.
