LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Memorial Stadium is working to implement new security changes ahead of the season. 10/11 NOW had a chance to see those new features up-close for the first time on Tuesday.

They will start utilizing newer types of metal detectors at each gate, that are much more efficient at locating items that people have on them. Fans will not have to remove anything from their pockets, they just have to walk through the new system.

The Assistant AD of Event Management at UNL, Tim Henrichs, showed off how the machine works.

“You’ll hear that audible alert, which is then transmitted,” Henrichs said. “Both graphics and a box will alert where that object was on the patron entering the facility.”

On top of the security changes, all Husker events are now going cashless. All of the changes are centered around making the gameday experience safer, while also speeding up the process of getting around.

Kickoff is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against UTEP.
