Hurricane warnings in place for Texas coast as Beryl approaches

Landfall is expected on Monday.

ATLANTA — Despite spending most of Friday over land, Beryl has maintained tropical storm strength

Beryl made landfall early Tuesday near Tulum, Mexico, as a category 2 hurricane. The storm is now moving through the Gulf of Mexico and closing in on the Texas coast.

It is possible Beryl will undergo rapid intensification in the next 12-24 hours, strengthening to a category 1 hurricane briefly before landfall early Monday. The cone of uncertainty stretches from just east of Rockport to Brazosport.

Beryl will veer north and east as it weakens over land.  The remnants of Beryl will send tropical moisture to the Midwest by the end of the week.

No impacts are expected here in north Georgia.

Ahead of landfall, Tropical Storm Warnings, Hurricane Warnings, and Storm Surge Warnings blanket the Texas coast.
