Digital Desk: Protecting seniors from scams

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - According to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center’s recent Elder Fraud Report, crimes against seniors resulted in more than $3.4 billion in losses this past year, and more than 100,000 complaints were submitted by those over the age of 60 in 2023, an 11% increase from the year before.

It’s important to be aware of the common types of scams reported by seniors.


Chad White, general counsel at Brookdale Senior Living, the nation’s biggest operator of senior living facilities, spoke with the Digital Desk about frequent senior scams, how to spot them, and how to help protect against fraud and reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of a senior scam.
