Liquid Vapor Phase Change Phenomena: An Introduction to the Thermophysics of Vaporization and Condensation Processes in Heat Transfer Equipment, Second Edition Hardcover – 24 Dec. 2007

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

Liquid-Vapor Phase-Change Phenomena presents the basic thermophysics and transport principles that underlie the mechanisms of condensation and vaporization processes. The text has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent innovations in research and to strengthen the fundamental focus of the first edition. Starting with an integrated presentation of the nonequilibrium thermodynamics and interfacial phenomena associated with vaporization and condensation, coverage follows of the heat transfer and fluid flow mechanisms in such processes. The second edition includes significant new material on the nanoscale and microscale thermophysics of boiling and condensation phenomena and the use of advanced computational tools to create new models of phase-change events. The importance of basic phenomena to a wide variety of applications is emphasized and illustrated throughout using examples and problems. Suitable for senior undergraduate and first-year graduate students in mechanical or chemical engineering, the book can also be a helpful reference for practicing engineers or scientists studying the fundamental physics of nucleation, boiling and condensation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carey's Book Review
Reviewed in the United States on 18 December 2009
My first impression of the book was that it would be a difficult reading.Nonetheless, after a few minutes brawsing the chapters it came evident that the book was very well written and organized. As an engineer, working in the aerospece industry, I definitely would recommend this book as a valuable resource. I would also encourage that in the next editions the authors provide more examples covering more variations of the discussed topics beyond those already provided. The book is a 5 star for sure and is also a reference in the field. Don't miss it.

The book is pretty comprehensive, although not as practical as some might be expecting. The first half of the book is rather academic in its subject-matter, not providing much that could be used in an industrial setting. However, everything is there, including lots of correlations later in the text.

For whatever reason, the printing quality is pretty low, not sure why.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and brilliant.

Simply excellent book. Covers in-depth all the major aspects of boiling and two phase flows. Is so well written that an instructor is not needed. As a graduate student who has actually gone through the entire book, I can say with certainty that it is an investment you will not regret.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good book inconsistent paper quality
Reviewed in the United States on 6 February 2019
Bought this book new, it came without plastic wrapping, and torn binder. Bought it again different seller, hard cover had a damage and it didn't have the plastic wrapping. The paper quality was terrible so much that you could read text of the front side on the back side of the paper. Paper quality of the first returned book was alright though. I am confused whether or not if I want to return this one as well. Also, this second one was from fulfilled by amazon or something, couldn't contact the seller.
