Weather warning issued across the East of England

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain across the East of England.

Forecasters said there was a risk of localised flooding.

The warning, issued just after 10:00 BST, covers the whole region, from Lowestoft in the east to Brackley in the west, and it continues into Tuesday.

The Met Office added that driving conditions could become difficult and there was a "slight chance" of power cuts.

A spokesperson said: "Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times with a risk of thunder, are expected to develop later on Monday afternoon, then move northwards through the evening and overnight."

The spokesperson added that between 15mm and 20mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, with a few places seeing up to 40mm in two hours.

The Met Office advised that property owners should check whether flooding in their area is likely and should prepare an emergency flood kit.

Motorists were advised to check road conditions and amend travel plans if necessary.
