  Miller (11-8) picked up the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over the Cardinals, allowing three hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out four. The right-hander fired 62 of 94 pitches for strikes and benefitted from some impressive defense behind him when St. Louis put the ball in play. The quality start was his 15th of the year, and he's given up three runs or fewer in six straight outings, posting a 1.56 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 38:8 K:BB in 34.2 innings over that stingy stretch. Miller will look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Rangers.

• Mariners' Bryce Miller: Short start versus Angels

  Miller (10-8) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Angels on Sunday. Miller has failed to complete five innings in three of his last six starts, though this was his first loss since June 29. He threw 53 of 91 pitches for strikes in this inefficient outing, which saw him walk multiple batters for just the second time in his last 12 appearances. Miller is now at a 3.30 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 147:36 K:BB through 155.1 innings over 27 starts. He pitched a total of 151 innings across all levels last year, so he should be good for at least couple of starts before fatigue would be a concern. If the Mariners get hot in September, Miller may be asked to tough it out for the regular season, but there's a chance he gets shut down early if the team ends up out of the playoff race. For now, Miller is projected to make his next start at St. Louis.

  Miller (10-7) earned the win over Tampa Bay on Monday, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters over seven innings. Miller was dominant in the outing, racking up 14 whiffs and tying a season high with 10 punchouts. The only run he allowed came on a Josh Lowe solo homer in the second inning, and Miller surrendered just one other hit (a single by Lowe in the fifth). The right-handed hurler has been outstanding of late, allowing just three runs (all on solo homers) over his past four starts covering 24 frames.. Miller has broken through in his second big-league campaign -- he ranks 11th among qualified starters with a 3.23 ERA and fourth with a 0.98 WHIP while registering a 143:33 K:BB over 150.2 innings.

• Mariners' Bryce Miller: Only completes four frames

  Miller did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings. Miller started out excellent by striking out the side in the first but needed 92 pitches to complete four frames, with 51 of those pitches coming in the third and fourth innings. Miller was able to hold the Dodgers scoreless through three but was victimized by the home-run ball in the fourth when he gave up solo shots to Gavin Lux and Max Muncy. Those were the first two home runs he's given up in four August starts and he's only given up four homers total since the start of July. The 25-year-old owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 133:33 K:BB in 143.2 innings and lines up to face the Rays at home to begin next week.

The Phillies' lineup put Miller to task early, posting back-to-back hits to open the contest before tagging the right-hander for one run in the first. Miller then managed to keep Philadelphia off the board over the next three innings, but he had to be relieved by Tayler Saucedo with one out in the fifth after failing to retire three of the first four batters he faced in the frame. The 25-year-old Miller had gone at least six innings in three consecutive starts coming into Saturday's no-decision, while the four runs were the most he's surrendered since June 23 against the Marlins (span of five starts). On a positive note, Miller has issued only two walks since the start of July while posting 21 strikeouts over that stretch.

Miller picked up some valuable experience last season beginning with his May 2 MLB debut, finishing the 2023 campaign with an 8-7 record, 4.32 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 25 starts. The right-hander's fastball clocked in at an impressive 95.1 mph as well, and while he primarily relied on his four-seam fastball and a sinker/two-seamer as a rookie, he decided to add the splitter after seeing rotation mates Logan Gilbert and George Kirby enjoy plenty of success with it last season. "I thought it was something that would be really good for how I throw and for what I needed," Miller said. " ... It took me a month or two just to find a grip that I was comfortable with and one that I was able to get consistent shapes with."
