Two teenagers described by police as street gang members were charged Monday in the fatal shooting of another youth after he told them he intended to quit the gang.

Randall Batchelor, 15, of 10212 S. Bensley Ave., and Ricky Walls, 17, of 10154 S. Hoxie Ave., were charged with the murder of Tyrone Bufkin, 15, of 9803 S. Merrion Ave., police said.

Bufkin, whose body was found at 8 p.m. Sunday on the sidewalk in front of 10101 S. Luella Ave., had been shot four times in the abdomen and back, according to police.

Bufkin was slain Sunday after he reportedly said that he planned to quit the gang, detectives said. Police said they learned that the three youths had spent most of Sunday afternon together and had quarreled over Bufkin`s plans. A weapon, a stolen .38 caliber revolver, was found at the home of another youth, police said.

On the North Side, police said the fatal shooting of two men on Saturday night may have been the result a gang member mistaking them for members of a rival gang.

The victims, Lonnie Nelson, 22, and Monte Colbert 20, were not members of any gang, police said. They were killed about 9:20 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block West Lyndale Street.

Nelson and Colbert, both of whom lived in other areas of the city, were slain during a visit to Bucktown, the neighborhood where they grew up.

Police were told that as the two walked, a large, gray auto stopped abruptly near them and a man got out. The assailant fired several sots from a handgun, then got back in the car and drove away.

Nelson was shot in the chest while Colbert was shot in the head. Nelson was the father of two young children.
