Nine senior citizens were taken to four hospitals Monday afternoon after they complained of becoming dizzy while eating lunch at Five Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 4327 S. Richmond St. Fire officials said they could not immediately determine the cause of the illness. All nine were treated for possible carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be the result of a faulty heating system, but fire officials said no fumes were detected. The 9 were among 70 people who were taking part in the church`s lunch program for senior citizens. Two of the victims were admitted to St. Anthony`s Hospital for observation. Five were being kept under observation in emergency rooms Monday night; two others were treated and released.
