An explosion in the mixing room of Varn Products Co. Inc., an Addison chemical firm, rocked the building Thursday, causing one wall and part of the roof to collapse. There were no injuries, and a small fire was extinguished quickly by Addison firefighters. The suburb`s fire commissioner, Charles Schlicher, said the explosion originated at a chemical processing machine, but the fire department still was investigating the exact cause. He estimated damage to the building, which is located in Addison`s industrial park, at $60,000.
