Police arrested an 18-year-old girl and two 15-year-old boys Thursday on charges they strangled the girl`s stepmother in a murder that was tape recorded on an emergency police telephone line.

The tapes recorded the screams of Vaughn Mitchell Robinson, 48, after she called the 911 emergency number for help Wednesday morning. Robinson gasped as she was strangled, then a voice come on the line and said: ”There`s nothing wrong. I was just kidding.”

Police rushed to the victim`s home and found Robinson`s body.

Robinson`s stepdaughter, Estelle Arwood, 18, a high school student, and two unidentied youths were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Homicide Sgt. Karl Robbins said one of the boys was Arwood`s boyfriend. He said the plan was to kill both parents, who did not approve of their relationship.

When the husband was notified of the murder, he went to Jackson High School to pick up his daughter.

”She was quite surprised. He was supposed to be dead, too,” Robbins said.
