Six pounds of heroin, worth $1 million, has been seized by police in Elgin from a car belonging to a suspect reportedly connected with the Herrera family, who authorities say imports large amounts of narcotics from Mexico to the Chicago area. Sgt. Carl Edenfield, of the police gang crimes division, said the heroinwas recovered Thursday night from the trunk of the car that had been towed Jan. 31 when an Elgin policeman noticed the car had no serial number on the upper dashboard. The car was towed to a private pound and the heroin was confiscated after an informant said dope dealers planned to break into the car and recover the narcotics. The owner of the car is being sought by police and Cook County state`s attorney`s investigators.
