UPDATED:

It was heartwarming to learn during the presidential news conference on Feb. 11 that President Reagan remains loyal to his dear friend, Mr. Marcos.

While it is true that many people, Filipino and American, consider Ferdinand Marcos to be a liar and oppressive dictator, guilty of indirect murder and stealing billions of dollars as well as the recent election in the Philippines, it was gratifying to realize our President would remain steadfast in his support for this great war hero. After all, as Mr. Reagan suggested during his presidential re-election campaign, those people opposed to Marcos are probably all communists.

Unfortunately, while Mr. Marcos knows he has a good friend in the White House, those Filipinos who long for truth, justice, freedom and democracy must look elsewhere for a friend.
