It`s on to the sectionals.

That`s the cry of Chicago Christian, Geneva and Luther North, who were among the winners of regional titles Friday as the Class A state tournament shifted into high gear.

Chicago Christian pounded Evergreen Park 48-35 to win its own regional and advance to the Momence sectional.

Luther North toppled tournament host Ridgewood 53-37 to advance to the Lemont sectional, where it meets Geneva Tuesday night.

Geneva, meanwhile, outlasted Aurora Central Catholic 69-67 in the final of its own regional.

Wayne Glenn scored 16 points and Ricky Argue added 10 to power Chicago Christian (17-11). The Knights, tied 21-21 at the half and trailing 29-27 after three quarters, outscored Evergreen Park 21-6 in the final quarter.

Mike Montgomery had 16 points and Bob Weszely 10 for Evergreen Park, which bowed out at 17-11.

Ridgewood regional–Luther North (14-13) rolled to a 27-21 halftime advantage and held on to eliminate Ridgewood (21-7). Derrick Scott had 18 points, Chris Ford 12 and Scott Musick 10 for Luther North. Rick Schroeder had 14 points and Dan Rojek 12 for Ridgewood.

Geneva regional–Geneva (13-15) had its hands full, but the Vikings prevailed down the stretch. Kurt Schick`s free throw with 8 seconds left gave Geneva its final 69-67 edge. Matt Cesarone had 18 points, Rich Bristow and Dave Lyons 17 each and Tim Cottier 16 for Geneva. Danny Kellen had 34 points and Vic Patterson 15 for Aurora Central (17-9).

Huntley regional–Marengo`s Northwest Suburban Conference champions

(22-4), ranked third among Class A teams by The Tribune, hammered Huntley of the Big Eight Conference behind Carlos Velasquez (15 points) and Phillip Waeghe (12). Marengo advances to the Byron sectional. Todd Ream had 19 and Eric Sutter 10 for Huntley (18-8).

Herscher regional–Interstate Eight Conference runner-up Wilmington

(20-7) advanced to the Momence sectional by nudging Mazon-Verona-Kinsman 44-42 in the title game. Glenn Van Duyne had 22 points for Wilmington. Mark Walker totaled 14 for Mazon (16-9).

Kaneland regional–Chris Gould sank a jump shot from the corner with 10 seconds remaining to lift Kaneland (17-10) to a 56-55 victory over top-seeded Elgin St. Edward (20-7). Gould finished with 14 points. Dave Schuppner added 13, Matt Harvell 11 and Dan Beebe 10 for the winners. Mike Jeffers had 13 and Ron Russell 10 for St. Edward. Kaneland advances to the Byron sectional.

Somonauk regional–Newark (28-0) defeated Yorkville 65-57, with 6-foot-5- inch sophomore David Olson scoring 26 points and 6-8 All-State forward Larry Hilt adding 19. Newark advances to the Princeton sectional. Jeff Kuehl had 23 points for Yorkville (21-6).

Rossville-Alvin regional–Hoopeston-East Lynn (27-1), No. 3 behind Teutopolis and Providence-St. Mel among state Class A powers, battered Armstrong 62-33. Steve Tolch and Steve Rieches scored 15 points each and David Busch had 14.

Annawan regional–Annawan (25-2) topped Port Byron Riverdale 70-52 behind Jody Junis` 19 points, Scott Copenjans` 18, Lynn Baele`s 14 and Scott Smith`s 11.

Arcola regional–Sullivan (23-4) avenged three earlier losses by stunning 10th-ranked Arthur (27-1) 61-54, with Scott Atchison getting 19 points and Jody Anderson 13. All-Stater Mark Edmundson had 30 points (18 in the fourth quarter) for Arthur.
