Mass for the Rev. Merlin A. Feltz, 81, a retired professor of philosophy at DePaul University, will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 1010 W. Webster St. Father Feltz died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital. He taught at DePaul from 1935 until he retired in 1974. A colleague described Father Feltz as ”a gentleman of the classroom, a fine scholar who was skilled at counseling his students.” Father Feltz, who was from Perryville, Mo., was ordained into the priesthood in 1929. In 1979 he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination at St. Vincent DePaul Church in his hometown. He is survived by two sisters; and a brother.
