One of McDonald`s Corp.`s senior executives has decided to move to the other side of the business.

McDonald`s said Monday that Edward H. Schmitt, 60, vice chairman, chief administrative officer and a director, has resigned to become a McDonald`s licensee in Aurora, where he lives.

Schmitt was out of the country Monday. A company spokesman said he didn`t know the location of the McDonald`s in Aurora that Schmitt would operate or whether Schmitt planned to operate more than one unit.

Fred L. Turner, chairman and chief executive officer, said: ”Ed is realizing a long-held ambition to go into business for himself as a McDonald`s owner-operator. He has made a most significant contribution to McDonald`s over his 22-year career. Fortunately, the McDonald`s system will continue to benefit from his leadership as a licensee.”

Schmitt was appointed senior executive vice president, chief operating officer and a director in 1973, president and chief administrative officer in 1977 and vice chairman and chief administrative officer in 1982.
