NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio - The City of North Royalton and North Royalton City Schools are excited to announce the reopening of the tennis courts on July 4. During a beautiful holiday weekend, North Royalton residents happily christened the newly improved courts.

The new playing fields were filled with young student players, serious adult players and families teaching their children how to play. The warm weather also drew families to the splash pad to cool off after energetic tennis matches.

“It took a bit longer than we had hoped, but the final product is a much-improved playing surface for our students and residents of all ages, who regularly enjoy our tennis, basketball and pickleball courts. Pickleball has become a popular sport, and we are happy to offer two additional courts for our community to use. This project is just another shining example of the great relationship we enjoy with the School District. We are so fortunate to have a willing partner in our School District to accomplish many of the endeavors we invest in, together, for our residents,” Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz said.

In early March, the City, in conjunction with the School District, began replacing Memorial Park’s six tennis courts. The City also added two new pickleball courts, replaced a full basketball court, and upgraded fencing, lighting, and curbing.

School Superintendent Michael Laub added, “When the City and schools work together, everyone benefits! I appreciate the continued partnership we share with the City and the open communication from the Mayor. I am looking forward to our girls’ and boys’ tennis teams having a great place to compete and showcase their talents. Our goal is, and will continue to be, to provide the best experiences we can for our students in every program and activity we offer.”

The Mayor has been dedicated to improving the Memorial Park Complex, viewing it as an invaluable community amenity. Over the past four years, he has added a state-of-the-art splash pad for youngsters and a shade structure, completely rebuilt the nearby pavilion, extended the asphalt trail to loop the Memorial Park Pond, and fully reconstructed the bridge.

“It’s a focal point in our community, a gathering place for families and students, so we want it to shine to its fullest potential,” Antoskiewicz said.
