When an uncooperative motorist refused to give his identity and instead sat in the street, Euclid police were able to figure out his identity from an old traffic ticket they found in his car.cleveland.com

EUCLID, Ohio – Here is the Euclid Police Blotter for July 1 through July 14.

Obstructing official business: Upper Valley Drive

An old traffic ticket tipped off Euclid officers July 5 on the identity of an uncooperative man and led to an arrest.

Officers pulled the man over for equipment violations on his car. But when asked to identify himself, the man driving refused to give his name.

Instead, he sat down in the roadway when he was asked to step out of the vehicle.

A traffic ticket that officers found in the car, though, provided the police with all the identification information they needed. Officers then discovered the man was wanted for arrest on five outstanding felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant.

The man was turned over to the Cuyahoga County sheriff.

A woman reported July 1 that someone broke into her car in an attempt to steal the vehicle from an apartment complex parking lot.

Fleeing and eluding an officer: East 200th Street

Officers responded July 1 to a report of a man brandishing a gun in the parking lot of Dollar General on East 200th Street. When they arrived, they spotted a man fitting the description in the car that had been reported. When officers attempted to stop the driver and investigate, the suspect drove into a police cruiser and then fled. Police chased the car until it crashed into a tree and caught fire on Kewanee Avenue in Cleveland. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.

Open door: Voelker Avenue

A resident of Voelker Avenue called July 1 to report that his neighbors were out of town but their front door was open.

Felonious assault: Tungsten Road

A man reported to police on July 2 that he was assaulted and injured by a suspect with an aluminum baseball bat.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakemont Avenue

Officers responded on July 2 to a home where a vehicle was reported stolen. The caller’s other car was also broken into and front damaged. Officers canvased the neighboring houses for camera footage and business cards were left at two houses.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A man who drives a truck for a living reported that he returned home July 2, having been out of town for a couple of weeks, and found his car was missing and there was glass on the ground where it had been parked.

Criminal damaging: East 266th Street

A resident reported on July 3 that while he was not home, someone fired four BB’s at his living room window, causing damage. The resident did not have any camera footage of the incident.

Criminal damaging: East 208th Street

Officers responded July 3 to a call from a woman who said her back car window was broken and that she had video of juveniles throwing rocks at the car. A juvenile’s parent was contacted. Parties agreed to handle between themselves.

Felonious assault: Lakeland Boulevard

Euclid Hospital staff notified police on July 3 that a man with a gunshot wound to the hand had been admitted. Officers responded and collected his statement. The man was unsure of the location of the incident, but said a light-colored car occupied by two young males cut him off in traffic and then shot him. The man was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Theft: Euclid Avenue

Police received a report July 4 that someone had broken into a car parked on Euclid Avenue, stolen multiple items, including bank and credit cards, and then used those cards for illegal purchases.

Recovery of stolen vehicle: Lakeshore Boulevard

Police spotted a stolen car July 4 in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Lakeshore Boulevard. Officers arrested the driver on a charge of receiving stolen property. The vehicle was towed.

Fight: East 262nd Street

Police responded on July 4 to the 200 block of East 262nd Street after multiple people were reported fighting in the street. Upon arrival officers observed many mutual combatants who were all attending a family holiday party. Officers gave verbal commands and the fighting ceased. All participants stated they did not want to pursue charges and the home owner was advised that the party was over and all non-residents must leave. Officers stood by while party was disbanded.

Littering: Goller Avenue

Officers responded on July 5 to a home where a woman reported that her boyfriend had thrown her clothing outside of their shared residence. Euclid police officers observed clothing strewn about in the street directly in front of the reported residence. The woman and her boyfriend were both contacted. The boyfriend refused to remove the clothing from the roadway and became increasingly hostile. A police report and warrant request were completed.

Receiving stolen property: East 222nd Street

Officers were called July 5 after a group of juveniles were reported joy riding on the football field in a stolen golf cart. Once officers arrived the juveniles crashed the golf cart and ran. Two were apprehended and released to their parents pending charges.

Warrant arrest: Euclid Avenue

Officers stopped a car for a minor traffic violation on July 5, but discovered the man driving was wanted for arrest on a warrant issued by Cuyahoga County sheriff. The man was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Vehicle grand theft: Sidney Drive

A woman reported July 6 that her car was stolen from the parking lot behind her apartment building. No suspect is known. Her car was recovered on July 8 on Euclid Avenue.

Animal care: Priday Avenue

Police were sent to a residence on Priday Avenue on July 6 after getting a call that owners had abandoned a dog. Officers found the residence was vacant. The dog was suffering from malnutrition with no food or water left in the residence. The animal was taken to the Euclid Animal Shelter.

Public disturbance, fight: Babbitt Road

Police were called July 6 about a disturbance at a home on Babbitt. On arrival, officers found several people fighting in the driveway. Two people at the scene told police they were jumped when they arrived home. Police made several arrests, pending further investigation.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A man reported July 7 that someone stole his car without use of the keys.

Report of shots fired: Kenwood Drive

Police were called July 8 by a resident who reported hearing shots fired at an apartment complex on Kenwood Drive. The caller stated the individual drove away from the scene and gave police a description of the vehicle. Officers found the individual at a nearby gas station. Officers did not locate any evidence of gunfire. No firearm was present.

Stolen vehicle recovered: Fisher Avenue

A resident reported a car theft on July 9 from their driveway. Subsequently, the vehicle was spotted on a nearby street. Two youths fled on foot. One male youth was arrested and released into his parents’ custody. The car was returned to the owner.

Criminal damaging: Lakeshore Boulevard

Euclid police officers were dispatched to a home on July 9 for a report of family trouble. Upon arrival, officers were told by a woman that her ex-husband (her child’s father) had fled after he broke down her door and threatened her. A police report and warrant request were both completed.

Vehicle grand theft: Hartland Road

A man reported July 9 that his classic Mercedes coupe was stolen by a young man while the vehicle was idling in the driveway.

Breaking and entering: Shirley Avenue

Police arrested three male youths who were caught breaking into a vacant home by a neighbor. A fourth juvenile escaped.

Weapons possession under disability: St. Clair Avenue

Officers with the Community Response Unit stopped a car for an equipment violation on July 10. The woman driving the car had a suspended license and admitted to having a concealed handgun. A computerized criminal history report revealed the driver had a prior conviction for robbery that disqualified her from carrying firearms.

Driving under the influence: Euclid Avenue

A passing motorist reported on July 11 that a woman was slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle that was stopped in traffic. Officers found the vehicle and roused the female driver. She was determined to be intoxicated and arrested for drunken driving. She refused a breath test; she was cited and released to her mother.

Kidnapping: East 222nd Street

A woman reported July 11 that she dropped her 18-year-old foster daughter off at an airport for a flight to Utah. The caller’s other daughter reported getting a message from the 18-year-old via Snapchat that she was being moved to Florida in two days. The caller believed her 18-year-old daughter was kidnapped by a sex trafficker in Cleveland, and that based on a notification on Snapchat, she was somewhere in Euclid. Police completed a report and forwarded it to the Detective Bureau further investigation.

Damage to vehicle: East 191st Street

Officers responded to Indian Hills apartments for reports of juveniles possibly breaking into vehicles. A damaged vehicle was located and the owner was notified. Indian Hills security notified officers the group had moved across Euclid Avenue towards Summerwood Commons. Police found three youths who were arrested. One juvenile was transported to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Corrections Center on an outstanding felony warrant. The other two were released to family.

Improper handling of a firearm: Roseland Avenue

Community Response Unit officers stopped a car for an equipment violation and found the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. Officers observed marijuana in plain view. None of the vehicle occupants were old enough to legally possess/consume marijuana. A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded gun in the rear passenger seat map pocket. None of the occupants admitted to ownership of the firearm; they were transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Public disturbance, fight: Crystal Avenue

Officers responded July 13 to a report of multiple people fighting in the area of East 200th Street and Crystal Avenue. They were told that a fight started in the middle of the street after an argument. Police observed a male youth with an arm injury and a woman, 21, with a head injury. All parties declined to be transported to the hospital by Euclid EMS. Neither parties wished to pursue charges.

Shots fired: Crystal Avenue

Police were called July 14 about shots fired at the corner of East 200th Street and Crystal Avenue. One victim was found at the scene and taken to Euclid General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The report was forwarded to the detective bureau for follow-up.

Burglary: Tracy Avenue

Police responded to a residence on July 14 for a burglary report. A window to the attached garage was broken into. Also, the living area was broken into and a bedroom was broken into from a window.
