OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Access to the newly opened Dog Park and Nature Trail will soon be enhanced.

That’s because Olmsted Township was recently awarded a $150,000 federal Community Development Block Grant from the Municipal Grant Program for the Schady Road sidewalk project east to Stearns Road.

“Sidewalks are a priority for the Board of Trustees because they connect neighborhoods and keep people safe,” Olmsted Township Trustee Riley A. Alton said.

“This project will provide a safe, walkable route for both kids and dogs to enjoy the township’s new nature trail and dog park.”

The Municipal Grant Program is a competitive grant initiative designed to strengthen communities, encourage regional collaboration and improve the quality of life for county residents.

Applications for this program were limited to the 51 Cuyahoga County Urban County Communities that have signed a cooperation agreement with Cuyahoga County.

The project includes constructing approximately 1,200 feet of 5-foot concrete sidewalk, grading, new drive aprons and drive pipes.

The total project construction estimate is $266,000 with completion expected this fall.

“The Schady Road sidewalk project will not only enhance pedestrian safety but also encourage more outdoor activities and connectivity within our township,” said Trustee Tom Cole in a press release.

“We are grateful for the support from the Municipal Grant Program.”

In the same press release, Trustee Lisa Zver said, “This project exemplifies our commitment to fostering a well-connected and accessible community.

“The new sidewalk will provide a vital link between key areas of the township, promoting both convenience and safety for our residents.”
