BRUNSWICK, Ohio -- Representatives from Hammond Construction have announced a six-day water main shutdown beginning at 7 a.m. July 22 in order to complete demolition and final closure of the Towslee Elementary School building at 3355 Center Road.

The closure will reportedly affect several buildings on the Brunswick High School campus.

The demolition is part of the Brunswick City School District’s voter-supported 36-year, $102 million bond issue-funded buildings project.

Hammond Construction is the construction manager on the project.

In a July 15 news release from Hammond and the school district, Hammond representatives called the announcement part of an effort to “keep the surrounding neighbors informed of our progress and activities onsite.”

The release states that the water line closure will be necessary, since the existing water service for the Towslee building is tied to the same water connections servicing the Brunswick High School campus, Brunswick Recreation Center and the Brunswick Public Library.

“This unexpected issue with overlapping utility connections was discovered by engineers during the early site work conducted for the new high school,” the release states.

“To meet code requirements for the water lines, a complete shutdown will be necessary, affecting all the facilities listed above.

“The work will be coordinated by Hammond Construction, along with the City of Cleveland Water Department and Sitetech Inc.”

The work required to upgrade the water meter and vault assembly is expected to take six days, with completion expected July 27, the release noted.

“Every effort will be made to complete these activities in a shorter time frame,” the Hammond representatives said.

“If the shutdown period ends prior to July 27, we will send an additional notice.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The release asks those with any further questions to contact Hammond Project Manager Nate Williams at 330-495-3212 or Project Superintendent Jim Williams at 330-324-1043.
