In his column today, Thomas Suddes looks at the possible implications for this race and for other high-stakes down-ticket contests in Ohio, including three Ohio Supreme Court seats, if Donald Trump, as predicted, wins Ohio in November.Jeff Dean, Associated Press / Manuel Balce Ceneta, Associated Press

As to Ohio, President Joe Biden’s purported strengths and purported weaknesses are beside the point. Absent the unforeseeable, ex-President Donald Trump is going to carry Ohio in November. Ohio’s presidential electors will meet at the Statehouse on Dec. 17. Trump’s slate might as well book its Columbus hotel rooms now.

The critical question for Ohio Democrats is whether and, if yes, how a Trump victory in Ohio might hold down turnout by the state’s Democratic voters and those independents who loathe Trump.
