COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football has a chance to strengthen its future at defensive tackle on Thursday. Jarquez Carter, a product of Newberry, Florida, is announcing his commitment at 5 p.m. with the Buckeyes among his top six options.

Florida, Penn State, Central Florida, Florida State and Miami are the other schools in the running.

Carter is a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. If he commits to Ohio State, which numerous recruiting sites have predicted, Carter would become the sixth defensive lineman (all four-star players) in coach Ryan Day’s top-ranked 2025 class.

Carter has made numerous trips to Columbus, including an official visit in June.

No surprise: Ohio State’s running backs have NFL hopes

With Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson leading the way, Ohio State should have one of the best – if not the best – running back rooms in the country this season. That’ll likely be reflected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Judkins and Henderson could be among the top five running backs taken in April, according to a report from The Athletic this week.

In ranking a talented draft class at the position, Judkins was identified as the fourth-best prospect. The Ole Miss transfer was praised for his reactionary reads, though his pass protection was critiqued.

Henderson was just below Judkins. As the fifth-best prospect, Henderson’s open-field running was highlighted while his patience on inside runs was noted as an area to improve.

While his production is expected to dip as he shares a backfield with Judkins, it could help with availability – something that has hindered Henderson the last two years.
