Aer Lingus added to TSA PreCheck program

First flight on Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus launched nonstop service from Cleveland to Dublin in May 2023.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Headed to Ireland this holiday week? Travelers flying Aer Lingus can now use TSA’s popular PreCheck program, which allows passengers to skip long security lines and keep their shoes on.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Monday that Aer Lingus, along with three other airlines, has been added to the program. The other airlines are Air New Zealand, Ethiopian Airlines and Saudia.

Cleveland travelers will be particularly interested in the addition of Aer Lingus, which flies nonstop between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Dublin.

Business travelers, in particular, have been eager for Aer Lingus to join the program in an effort to reduce security wait times at Hopkins, which have increased in recent months.

To use the service, travelers must apply to the program in advance, visit an enrollment center for fingerprinting and to have their photo taken, plus pay a fee ($78 to $85 for five years). Upon approval, travelers are issued a Known Traveler Number, which is added to airline reservations.

PreCheck travelers are allowed to keep shoes, belts and light jackets on and are not required to remove laptops and small liquids from their carry-on bags. According to TSA, the vast majority of PreCheck passengers wait less than 10 minutes for screening.

More than 200 airports and nearly 100 airlines now participate in the program, according to TSA. For information: tsa.gov/precheck
