Kwan finally eligible for batting title
Guardians outfielder leads the Majors in hitting
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Steven Kwan missed four weeks earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. That time off kept him from appearing as league leader in batting average, he did not have enough plate appearances.
Not anymore.
After his latest three-hit game on Thursday Kwan does have enough appearances and he moved right to the top as the best hitter in Major League Baseball.
The 26-year old carried a .367 average heading into play on Friday, 48 points higher than the next best hitter- Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr.
If he can avoid a big slump, and stay healthy, Kwan could be the first Cleveland player to win a batting title since Bobby Avila in 1954.
It’s been a big week for Kwan. On Wednesday he was named to his first All-Star Game, he will start for the American League at the game later this month in Arlington, TX.
