Dark Horse's latest Vocaloid manga takes Miku's star power to the stars themselves!

Hatsune Miku Future Delivery

Hatsune Miku has been the one to fulfill our modern-day visions of the cyberpunk future—whose most famous writer, William Gibson, wrote in his 1996 novel Idoru of a virtual idol with an online fan community, each experiencing her musical performance in their own way, according to their own tastes. But what about what fellow cyberpunk pioneer Bruce Sterling would call "a good old-fashioned future"—that is, science fiction that envisioned not so much a networked Earth, but humans venturing forth to form an even more astounding network—an interstellar civilization? That’s the voyage travelled in Dark Horse's latest Vocaloid manga, Hatsune Miku: Future Delivery, a two-volume series by Satoshi Oshio and Hugin Miyama. The first book is now available!

Hatsune Miku: Future Delivery takes place approximately 400 years after humanity's first steps into space. The first of the main characters is little Asimov the robot, who runs a galactic delivery service—a struggling business not only because Asimov is old and worn down, but because 3D printing and fabrication technology has advanced to the point that fewer and fewer people see the point of shipping items, when you can just make them yourself out of raw data. The second of the main characters is a girl named Asumi—a name Asimov gives her because she has no memories of her past; her only clue to her own origins is a dream of a young woman with long green ponytails, and a drawing she made based off of it.

The robot short of work decides to take on the job of "delivering" the girl without a past, and so the two of them begin to travel the galaxy to different worlds in search of the person in Asumi’s dream. They (and the readers) begin to realize that just as the Vocaloids on Earth assumed so many identities depending on the mood and lyrics of their songs, so in the distant future there are many Hatsune Mikus, Megurine Lukas, and Kagamine Rens and Lins on different worlds, living lives that depend on the local culture of the planet. Asumi is gradually forming a picture out of the mosaic of the people she and Asimov meet along the way…but they're not the only ones along on this voyage, as a mysterious figure is stalking them from the shadows. Journey along with them to meet a legend too big for just our world with Hatsune Miku: Future Delivery vol. 1!
